Let the New England Onsite Wastewater Training Program (NEOWTP) teach you about nitrogen transformations in conventional and advanced (innovative and alternative) wastewater treatment systems. Learn what types of systems can be used to reduce harmful forms of nitrogen in wastewater that would otherwise enter the environment and cause problems for human and/or ecosystem health. You'll learn about important regulatory limits for nitrogen from public and environmental health perspectives, and how advanced systems help meet these limits. In this course, we will also share recent research about treatment performance and some troubleshooting tips for nitrogen-reducing systems. This course should take registrants approximatey 4 hours to complete all of the learning modules associated with this class.
This course (OWT 160: Nitrogen in the Environment & Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems) offered by URI's New England Onsite Wastewater Training Program has been accredited and approved for continuing education credits (CEUs) and/or training contact hours (TCHs) for professionals in the onsite wastewater-related industry by the following regulatory agencies:
- Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (2 CEUs)
- Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (4 TCHs for SE/SI)
- New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (3 SSB credits)
- Suffolk County Department of Labor, Licensing and Consumer Affairs (4 TCHs)
- Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (2 Non Soil Credits)
In addition, the NEOWTP meets continuing education provider requirements as described by the Board of Registration of Sanitarians. Registered Sanitarians and/or Registered Environmental Health Specialists can count this course towards their continuing education requirements.
