Let the New England Onsite Wastewater Training Program (NEOWTP) teach you about Bottomless Sand Filter design. This four-hour self-paced class is focused on the Bottomless Sand Filter (BSF) design workflow. Course content includes a review of BSF treatment trains, relevant BSF design specifications and best practices, as well as a refresher on important concepts related to pressurized pipe networks, including system and pump curves. Through interactive content, you’ll be introduced to the AutoCALCS spreadsheet programs, which were developed by URI NEOWTP staff to standardize the approach to BSF design, which can streamline plan review across jurisdictions. One of the AutoCALCS sheets will help you with tank and pump chamber buoyancy calculations. The other AutoCALCS spreadsheet program was developed to run calculations that determine a variety of BSF design parameters, in accordance with BSF design guidance and regulations. AutoCALCS will help you to size a BSF with proper orifice and lateral spacing, determine the elevations for all floats and screen vaults, and associated required timer settings and pump run times. During the course, you’ll download AutoCALCS and its supporting documentation and materials, and work your way through a series of guided exercises to practice using AutoCALCS and learn how to integrate this tool into your BSF design workflow.
Important note: This BSF design-focused course builds on content covered in our Innovative & Aalternative Technologies (OWT 105) and Bottomless Sand Filter Design & Installation (OWT 125) classes, and we strongly recommend you complete these classes before enrolling in this course. You can check our course schedule for when we offer these classes by vistiting our website: New England Onsite Wastewater Training Program Classroom and Field Training Opportunities
