Description:
PREP-RI training, Providing Resilience Education for Planning in Rhode Island, was launched in 2017 (updated in 2026) by the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island Sea Grant, and the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve, to support a legislated mandate for training for local boards and commissions. These 10-12 minute modules focus on increasing decision-makers capacity to enhance local resilience to the effects of natural hazards and climate change, particularly flooding from storms and sea level rise. These modules are available to interested parties, with particular application to government agencies, volunteer boards, and community members and more, offering practical, science-based information that may be applied to planning, zoning, conservation, infrastructure, and maintenance efforts. PREP-RI modules satisfy the state’s legislative requirement that municipal planning boards and commissions receive training on flooding and sea level rise.
